YubiKey

YubiKey is a hardware authentication device for strong two-factor and passwordless authentication developed by Yubico. It allows users to securely log in to their accounts, and it doesn’t require significant technical knowledge to get started with, making it perfect for all Bitcoin and cryptocurrency owners who would like to better protect their digital funds and associated user accounts.

Perhaps the greatest testament to the security and effectiveness of YubiKey is the fact that in 2009 Google decided to deploy it to all staff and contractors for secure computer and server login, reaching more than 50,000 employees. According to Google’s own internal study, accounts protected with a YubiKey experienced a significant increase in the level of security.

Since then, Google has started selling its own hardware authentication device that’s very similar to YubiKey, called Titan Security Key, but we at Brisbane Bitcoin Services still recommend YubiKey because it’s the superior security tool for individuals. The best way to maintain digital security for an individual without high level technical knowledge is with a password manager program secured by 2 factor authentication & a master password that isn't typed into a keyboard. YubiKey is a brillaint tool for simplifying this process & other forms of digital security for many purposes.

How YubiKey Works:
YubiKey has multiple security modes for securing apps, online accounts, and computers:

OTP Mode: The YubiKey generates an encrypted password for one-time use.
OATH HOTP Mode: Similar to the OTP mode, the OATH HOTP generates a one-time password for logging into any service that supports this security mode.
Static Password Mode: Typically used with legacy systems that don’t support newer authentication methods, this mode generates a highly secure 38-character static password compatible with any application log-in.
Challenge and Response Mode: This mode can be used to greatly increase the security of various online accounts, including Google, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, Microsoft, Apple iOS, and many others, by providing a valid response to an authentication challenge.

Brisbane Bitcoin Services offers in-person technical assistance with the setup of YubiKey. We also recommend purchasing two YubiKeys to have a backup in case one is lost or physical broken. The image below is an Amazon link where you can purchase YubiKeys.
